Coach Carlos Ancelotti didn't hold back his criticism of Real Madrid after watching them succumb to a humiliating 0-4 defeat away to Atletico Madrid in the Vicente Calderon.
Atletico had not beaten Real Madrid by four goals since 1987 and totally outplayed their neighbours Saturday for the entire 90 minutes, as their coach admitted, reports Xinhua.
"Atletico deserved to win because they beat us in every aspect," said the Real Madrid coach, who said Atletico had been better in "fight, intensity and play, everything".
"We have to look at why that happened over the next few days. We are very sorry. We clearly have to change this attitude and make sure this doesn't happen again in another match. We failed in everything. We were second to every ball. We did not get into the match and there wasn't one player who had a good game."
Ancelotti said the compensation was that his side would sleep four points clear at the top of La Liga and said that bearing in mind absences to key players such as Sergio Ramos, Pepe and James Rodriguez, he would not have picked a different team.
"The line-up was the most logical one. The most unusual thing was the lack of attitude and fight in all the players," he said.
In contrast to Ancelotti's frustration, Atletico coach Diego Simeone was celebrating his side's third win over their neighbours this season.
"They carried out the match to perfection," he said, paying special attention to Saul Ninguez, who came on as a substitute, scored Atletico's second goal and set up their third, before retiring injured himself.
"Saul was brilliant. He's very important for the future. He knows it and the club knows it," said Simeone, whose side have pulled to within four points of Real.
"I don't want to think about the title. We will take it one game at a time."
