The Indian Army Sunday treated 294 patients in the flood-ravaged Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir and also distributed free medicines, an official said.

A medical camp was organised by the Kalakote-based Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Khadariyan village "as part of welfare activities and to ameliorate the medical problems of the people after the floods", defence ministry spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

"A team of army and civil doctors attended to 294 patients that included men, women and children. The patients were also distributed free medicines," he said.

The toll in the floods in Jammu and Kashmir climbed to 280 Saturday. At least 203 people have died in Jammu region and 77 in the Kashmir Valley, officials said.
