The Assam government on Friday said that a Special Investigation Team to undertake a through probe into circumstances leading to the killing of All Bodo Minority Students Union President Lafiqul Islam.
The team is headed by senior IPS officer Anurag Tankhar having experience of working with National Investigation Agency.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had on Thursday announced that a SIT would be formed to carry out an exhaustive investigation into the killing of the student leader in Kokrajhar on August 1.
He also said that the state government would also rope in the Central Bureau of Investigation to unearth the mystery, and a formal request has been made to the Union Home Ministry in this connection.
