Singer Avril Lavigne and musician Chad Kroeger have separated from each other after two years of marriage.

Lavigne, 30, announced their separation on Instagram, with a photograph featuring the two in happier timeS, reports aceshowbiz.com.

"It is with (a) heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments," she tweeted on Wednesday.

"We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

The reason of their split is unclear but the Nickelback frontman reportedly has been telling people that their marriage is on the rocks.

"It's over. He has been going around Los Angeles telling people that they are divorcing," a source earlier said.

Lavigne and Kroeger, 40, started dating in 2012 after they worked together on her fifth studio album. They married at Chateau de La Napoule in the South of France in 2013.

The couple was hit with breakup rumours last year, which both vehemently denied. She later opened up on her battle with Lyme disease and praised her husband for being there for her.

She was previously married to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2010.
