Azerbaijan won the right to stage the 42nd edition of the 2016 Chess Olympiad in the capital city of Baku from May 17 to 30.

The other two application by Albena of Bulgaria and Tallinn of Estonia did not make presentations before the voting and were not approved Monday, Xinhua reports.

The Chess Federation of Azerbaijan came up with a rich offer to host the 2016 Chess Olympiad and 2015 World Cup in Baku back in July.

The budget for the 2016 Chess Olympiad is an astonishing 13.3 million euros with Baku also due to host the FIDE World Cup in 2015.
