Portuguese football club Benfica is preparing a bid to sign midfielder Marcelo Meli from Argentine club Boca Juniors, according to press reports.
The Argentine club are seeking 3.5 million euros ($3.9 million) as transfer amount, half of the player's value. The other half of the player's transfer value would go to his former Argentine team Colon, reports Efe.
By signing Meli, Benfica would be trying to fill the void left by fellow Argentine Enzo Perez, who left for Spanish club Valencia in last season's transfer window.
Meli, 23, began his career with Colon and was transferred last season to Boca Juniors, who paid 650,000 euros ($724,308).
