Blanchett, McConaughey win best actor trophies at SAG awards

Actors Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey were honoured with the outstanding female and male actors in a leading role award for their films "Blue Jasmine" and "Dallas Buyers Club", respectively, at the 20th Screen Actor Guild awards.

The SAG awards ceremony was held here Saturday.

David O. Russell's "American Hustle" won the outstanding cast in a motion picture award, the SAG Awards' equivalent of Best Picture.

The movie, which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, defeated "12 Years A Slave," "Dallas Buyers Club," "August: Osage County" and "Lee Daniels' The Butler" for the top honour, reports huffingtonpost.com.

Actress Lupita Nyong'o won outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role for "12 Years A Slave," and Jared Leto took home outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for "Dallas Buyers Club."

Michael Douglas was given the award for the outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or a mini-series award for his performance in "Behind the Candelabra" and Helen Mirren (for "Phil Spector") took home the outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or a miniseries award.

Bryan Cranston won the award for outstanding male actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Walter White in "Breaking Bad." The show was also named outstanding ensemble in a drama series.

Dame Maggie Smith was honoured with the outstanding female actor in a drama series for "Downton Abbey."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Veep") and Ty Burrell ("Modern Family") won awards for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series and outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series, respectively.

"Modern Family" won the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series award.

The SAG Awards announced its nominations in early December 2013.
