A hardcore cadre of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland's (NDFB)anti-talk faction was shot dead in a gunfight with security forces on early Tuesday in Assam's Kokrajhar district under the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), an official said.
A defence spokesman said the slain cadre, identified as Nerswn Brahma alias Naidaw was involved 2012 violence against Bengali-speaking Muslim settlers in the district.
"Based on a tip off, the army and police launched an operation in the district in the early hours of Tuesday. However, when the search party reached the area, the militant opened fire leading to a gun fight," the spokesman said, adding that the militant was killed in the ensuing gun battle.
An AK 47 rifle, two magazines, 44 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 11 fired cases, two mobile phones, Rs.11,000 in cash and some incriminating documents were recovered from the slain militant, he said.
