Claudio Borghi agreed to return as coach of Argentinos Juniors, the club he took to win the championship in 2010, after 25 years.

The Argentinian coach, who last coached Chile's national team, has agreed to sign a year-and-a-half contract that will take him through June 30, 2015, Xinhua reported Monday.

The 49-year-old Borghi, who will be replacing coach Ricardo Caruso Lombardi, will have a tough challenge ahead, since the team has to accumulate many points to avoid slipping into the second division over the next six months.

The Buenos Aires-based Argentinos have named their home stadium after legendary Diego Maradona, who got his start playing in the club's junior division.

The team's coaching team will also include former footballers Adrian Domenech and Lucas Pusineri, with Carlos San Martin serving as trainer for the goalkeepers and Hernan Torres as the physical trainer.

Borghi played well for the Argentinos in the 1980s and as coach in 2010, led the team to win the national Closing Tournament, a title that had eluded the club for a quarter of a century.

His last post was as coach of Chile's national team (2011-2012), prior to which he coached Italy's Audax (2002-2003) and Argentina's Colo Colo (2006-2008).

In Argentina, he also coached Independiente (2008) and Boca Juniors (2010), but without much success.
