German football club Werder Bremen's captain Clemens Fritz has extended his expiring contract for another year.
Fritz has worn the Green-White jersey since 2006 and the chapter is not yet closed as the veteran agreed on a contract extension until June 2016. The former German international took his time with the signature under a new contract as he had doubts whether he would retire or not, reports Xinhua.
"I needed my time to consider as I wanted to get a sense if my body is still able to perform on a top level for another year, and it looks good. I feel very good and the desire to continue on the pitch," the 34-year-old said.
The defender joined Bremen from Leverkusen in 2006 and scored four goals in 310 official games.
"We as the coaching staff are very delighted that he will be another year with us. He is an important go-to-guy for the team," Bremen coach Viktor Skripnik said.
Bremen sit currently in seventh place in Bundesliga.
