The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday closed a six-year-old corruption case against Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members due to lack of evidence.
The agency cited insufficient evidence and closed the six-year-old case of Mulayam Singh Yadav owning assets disproportionate to known sources of his income in a special CBI court here.
The agency had registered a preliminary inquiry March 5, 2007, against Mulayam, his sons Akhilesh and Prateek, and Akhilesh's wife Dimple Yadav following a Supreme Court order of March 1, 2007, in a petition filed in November 2005.
"Since the suspects did not join the inquiry at the initial stage, the preliminary inquiry was concluded in 2007 itself calculating their property at over Rs.2.63 crore," said the agency.
