Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the Centre has to decide on the release of those convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

"The issue has come to the Centre and the government has to decide. The ball is in the Centre's court. As a son, I would not like to express my opinion," Gandhi told a TV channel here.

The central government is examining a Tamil Nadu government plea seeking the release of those linked to the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991, in Sriperumbudur in the southern state, union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday.
