China's national weather observatory renewed a yellow alert for a cold front that will bring low temperatures and gales to the country on Saturday.
From Saturday to Monday, strong cold air will sweep across the central and eastern part of China with temperatures dropping up to 14 degrees Celsius, Xinhua quoted the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) as saying.
The NMC issued a blue alert for cold front on Thursday and raised the warning to yellow on Friday.
China has a four-tier warning system for severe weather with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
The observatory forecast light to moderate snow from Saturday to Sunday in parts of Yunnan, Guizhou and Shaanxi provinces, northeastern China and regions south of the Yangtze River.
The extreme weather has affected the travel rush as people are returning to work after the Lunar New Year holiday.
