Michael Clarke's hamstring troubles struck again as the Australian captain was ruled out of the remaining play in first ODI against South Africa here Friday.

Clarke was dismissed for 11 from 20 balls in Australia's innings, caught by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock off Dale Steyn after his attempted pull shot found the glove and lobbed behind.

Cricket Australia (CA) doctor Peter Brukner confirmed the injury and said Clarke will have a scan Saturday.

"Michael Clarke has re-injured his hamstring and will take no further part in today's match," Brukner was quoted as saying by the CA website.

"Clarke is currently being assessed and will have a scan tomorrow (Saturday). George Bailey will step up as captain."

Clarke's injury comes less than three weeks out from the first Commonwealth Bank Test against India, which starts Dec 4 at the Gabba.

Brad Haddin is also racing against time to be fit for the first Test, also having been ruled out of the ODI series against the Proteas due to a shoulder injury Friday.

Clarke's hamstring troubles are linked to a chronic back injury that the skipper has been forced the manage for a lot of his career. It is the second time this year Clarke has injured his hamstring during a match, having being forced to retire hurt during Australia's ODI loss to Zimbabwe in August.
