Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces at many places here post Friday's congregational prayers.

Slogan shouting youths took to the streets after the Friday prayers in Nowhatta area of the old city in Srinagar, police said.

"The protesting youth pelted stones at the deployed security men who used tear smoke shells to disperse them," a police officer said.

Similar clashes broke out in Hajin town of Bandipora district, Sopore town of Baramulla district and in south Kashmir's Shopian town.
