The Congress core committee met Tuesday to discuss the logjam in parliament with the opposition refusing to let the house function till Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Law Minister Ashwani Kumar and Railway Minister P.K. Bansal resign.
Those attending the meeting included the prime minister, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath as well Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel.
The opposition wants Manmohan Singh's resignation over irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks. While Bansal is embroiled in controversy after his nephew was arrested for taking bribe to ensure a choice posting for a railway official, Ashwani Kumar is under fire for vetting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report on coal allocation meant for the Supreme Court.
Parliament was paralysed after the opposition demanded their resignations.
