The Congress-led government in Meghalaya will not complete its full term and can collapse under its own weight of "non-performance" and "internal bickering", BJP leader Nalin Kohli said on Monday.

"The very fact that Mukul Sangma found the need to appoint 18 parliamentary secretaries in addition to 12 ministers clearly shows that things are not in good condition in the Congress party," the BJP's national spokesman told journalists.

Kohli, who is also a BJP general secretary in charge of the party's affairs in Meghalaya, said the controversial appointment of such parliamentary secretaries was also likely to attract legal challenges.

The lone North East Social Democratic Party legislator, Lamboklang Mylliem, who is supporting the Mukul Sangma government, resigned from his post of parliamentary secretary following reports that the government violated the 91st amendment to the Constitution by appointing parliamentary secretaries, who would be availing the same perks and facilities provided to ministers.

Stating that the BJP will have no role in toppling the Congress government in Meghalaya, Kohli said: "If the Congress government collapses, it will be under its own internal contradictions and internal conflicts."

"The government appointing 18 parliamentary secretaries only shows how much confidence the Congress has on its own 30 legislators," he said.
