Congress on Thursday fielded Muddasor Hossain Warsi in the January 29 bypoll to Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of sitting member, senior Trinamool Congress leader Sultan Ahmed.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi also approved the name of Gautam Basu as the party candidate from Noapara assembly constituency, which fell vacant after death of sitting Congress member Madhusudan Ghose.

Apart from Uluberia, by-elections are also due in Rajasthan's Alwar and Ajmer parliamentary constituencies, as well as Mandhalgarh assembly seat in the state.
