Bodies of a couple were found hanging from a tree in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district, police said Tuesday.
The incident took place in Musepur village of Khairabad area, about 90 km from here, where bodies of Shambhu, 45, and his wife Kamla Devi, 40, were found hanging from a tree outside the village.
Police suspect the two had committed suicide, but the family says there was no reason to believe they committed suicide, and alleged that the couple were murdered.
A senior police official told IANS that the bodies have been sent for autopsy and police are exploring enmity angle as well.
The couple was reported missing Monday evening and could not be traced by their family despite a night-long search.
The two were spotted hanging from the tree in the morning by some villagers. While Shambhu had his 'lungi' around his neck, his wife was hanging by a noose made of her saree.
