A court here on Saturday said it will monitor the Wadakancherry rape case of 2014, which came back into the focus last month when the 34-year-old victim along with her husband and two women activists appeared before the media in the state capital.
Following the victim's anguished plea, a special police team was constituted to probe the case, but the victim, unhappy with the way the case was progressing, approached the Wadakancherry First Class Magistrate's court seeking a court-monitored probe into it.
The court on Saturday, after hearing the petitioner and police, agreed to monitor the case and directed police to submit a report every 10 days.
The case took a turn last month when the Kerala Police registered a case against former Speaker and senior Communist Party of India-Marxist leader K. Radhakrishnan for revealing the personal details of the victim, who has accused party workers including Municipal Councillor P. N. Jayanthan, of the crime.
The victim first wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in August this year, but after no response, approached two women activists who took the case up and held the press conference in the state capital.
