The Delhi government on Friday set up a high-level committee to ponder over various demands of the guest teachers in the national capital, an official statement said.

"The high-level committee will be headed by the Principal Secretary (Finance). This committee will think over several demands of the guest teachers including fixed salary for guest teachers, maternity leave and one casual leave every month," it said.

Earlier, the Guest Teachers Association in a communique to the government had requested to consider these demands for the welfare of the guest teachers.

"The Delhi government had sent a file related to making of a policy on permanent appointments of the guest teachers, to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung but it is not yet approved," the statement said.

"The government has re-appointed 17,000 guest teachers in the government schools from July 1. They will not be removed until a policy to make them permanent is formed," it added.
