Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Saturday reiterated his government's stand on the appointment of Krishna Saini as Chairperson of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) and said that there will be "absolute chaos" in the national capital if Saini's appointment is cancelled.

"If the appointment is cancelled, DERC will stop working. Then where will people go with their complaints? The three power discoms will get a completely free hand to do whatever they want and no one will be able to take action against them," Jain said.

On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had written to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung urging him to "reconsider" his order for removing Saini as Chairperson of the DERC.

Expressing his willingness to meet Jung to discuss the issue, Kejriwal had said that declaring the DERC chief's appointment as void ab initio after a period of six months may lead to serious setbacks as all the decisions of the regulator taken during this period would also become "null and void".

Jung had scrapped Saini's appointment as the DERC chief on Wednesday and asked the government to start the selection process afresh in accordance with the law.
