Legendary actor Dilip Kumar might have decided to skip a grand celebration of his birthday on Friday in solidarity with Chennai flood victims, but he celebrated his 93rd birthday by walking down memory lane in the virtual world with his well-wishers.

Inundated by birthday greetings, the cinema icon responded to the "messages and photographs" posted by his admirers on Twitter and thanked them "for all the beautiful adjectives and greetings".

And when one user posted his wedding photograph with his wife and actress Saira Banu, the thespian mentioned that the image makes him filled with joy. He shared: "Thank you. This photograph with Saira always brings joy."

The star of many films like "Devdas", "Ganga Jamuna", "Madhumati" and "Ram aur Shyam" started a live chat session on the micro-blogging site with a post that read: "Will now share with you some messages and photographs that have come to me on this screen. Your photographs and more memories".

Through a string of tweets while sharing the messages by his admirers, Dilip Kumar returned the good wishes with expressions like "God bless you", "Thank you for such love" and "My salams to your 'old' grandmother".

The wishes were not restricted to India, but came from across the globe. When one user from Scotland wished the star "happy birthday", he posted: "Love to all of you in Scotland."

Dilip Kumar, whose real name is Yusuf Khan, became a name to reckon with in the 1950s and 1960s, due to his performances in films like "Aan", "Daag", "Mughal-E-Azam" and "Leader". After working for about six decades, he bid adieu to the arclights in 1998. His last movie was "Qila".
