Drugs worth lakhs of rupees seized in Delhi, two held

Two people have been arrested here for carrying five kg charas and 100 LSD (Lysergic acid Diethylamide) paper stamps worth over Rs.80 lakh, police said on Friday.

Khem Singh, 34, and Hem Raj, 35, both the residents of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, were arrested here on December 24.

Police said the arrested drug traffickers were initially addicted to charas but later they became peddlers.

"Hem Raj is associated with international racket of drug trafficking and used to take LSD from foreigners in Kasol and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.

Yadav said Hem Raj would buy LSD at a low price in lieu of charas through the barter system prevailing there.

"Later he sold it in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune to young boys and girls for rave parties or festivals," Yadav said.

The officer said the demand for these drugs is high in India.

"Hem Raj exchanged about three kg charas for 250 LSD paper stamps with a foreigner called Osama. A part of the recovered contraband was also to be dispatched to Thailand," the officer said.

The officer said the arrested men procured charas from Guddu, Mehru and Puran, all residents of Kasol and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh.
