State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on Friday completed distribution of eight crore light emitting diode (LED) bulbs over one year across 125 cities in India, an official statement said on Friday.
"Distribution of 8 crore LED bulbs - achieved over a period of 12 months - has led to over 2.84 crore kWh of daily savings capable of lighting over 20 lakh homes for 365 days," said the power ministry statement.
"Alongside the savings in units, the country has also benefitted from daily carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction of 23,000 tonnes," it added.
The ministry said LED bulbs distributed under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (Ujala) scheme are one third the market price and come with a three-year free replacement warranty.
Ujala is currently operational in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttrakhand.
The name 'Ujala', for the LED-based Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), was announced by Power Minister Piyush Goyal at an event here last week.
