Egyptian security forces Saturday arrested Mohamed Zawahri, a brother of Al Qaeda leader Ayman Zawahri, reports said.
"Mohamed Zawahri, leader of the Salafist Jihadist group, has been arrested at a checkpoint in Greater Cairo," official MENA news agency quoted a security source as saying, reported Xinhua.
However, state-run Al-Ahram news website said Zawahri has been arrested in a street in Giza with a laptop and some publications in his possession.
The arrest comes one day after overnight clashes between supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi and security forces, which left at least 173 killed and 1,330 injured.
Since Morsi's ouster on July 3, the Salafist Jihadist group led by Zawahri has been mobilizing its followers to flood the streets to oppose "the coup".
