An elderly man committed suicide by jumping in front of a metro train in Kolkata on Tuesday morning, a Kolkata Metro Rail official said. The incident triggered partial disruption in train services for nearly half-an-hour.

The incident took place at Rabindra Sarobar metro station in South Kolkata.

"A senior citizen committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving metro rake on the down line of Rabindra Sarobar metro station around 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday. He has not been identified yet," Chief Public Relations Officer of Kolkata Metro Railway, Indrani Banerjee, told IANS.

"The accident caused temporary disruption in the train services for half-an-hour. However, the services between Dumdum and Maidan were on during that time," she said.

According to the Metro authority, the body was recovered from the track and taken to M.R. Bangur Hospital in Tollygunj.

"Train services resumed from 12 noon," Banerjee added.
