Elderly woman injured in Kolkata hospital as ceiling fan falls

An elderly woman was seriously injured when a ceiling fan fell on her head inside a state-run hospital in Kolkata, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place in South Kolkata's M.R. Bangur Hospital in Tollygunge locality on Wednesday night.

According to hospital authorities, Sarolaksmi Das, a local resident, was accidentally hit by a ceiling fan in the outdoor section of the hospital. She has been admitted in the surgical unit.

"She got four stitches in her head and also underwent an MRI for her injury. Her condition is stable now," an official manning the grievance redressal cell of the hospital said.

The hospital authorities claimed to have run a check on the other fans in the hospital to avert such accidents in future. "We always inspect the infrastructure of our hospital but accidents may happen," the official said.
