Over 16,000 people were evacuated as rainstorms lashed parts of China's Hunan province, authorities said on Sunday.

Heavy rain began to lash the province on Saturday, affecting more than 120,000 people, with roads destroyed and power supply disrupted in some areas, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 16,450 people have been evacuated.

In the worst hit Huayuan county, rainfall amounted to 150.4 mm.

The rain was expected to last until Monday, according to the local meteorological station.
