The Extreme Heat Policy has been implemented on Day 4 of the Australian Open here Thursday.
The Policy states that the roof on Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena will be closed at the end of the set. In the match between 10th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Thomaz Bellucci, the roof was closed after the first set. It will remain closed for the duration of the match.
Play will be and has been suspended on the outside courts at the end of the set and no matches will be called to the outside courts while the Extreme Heat Policy is in place. There will also be no practice on the outside courts.
Play will not resume on the outside courts before 5:00 p.m. (local time). The Extreme Heat Policy will be reviewed every 30 minutes and a minimum of 30 minutes' notice will be given to players prior to it being lifted.
