As a many as four flights were cancelled and several trains delayed Wednesday after a dense blanket of fog reduced the visibility below 50 metres in northern West Bengal.
Due to low visibility at the Bagdogra airport, an Air India and an Indigo flight with nearly 100 passengers each, returned to Kolkata.
According to Bagdogra airport official Rakesh Ranjan Sahay, two more Kolkata-bound flights were cancelled leaving at least 150 passengers stranded at the airport.
The dense fog also affected train movement with several trains like the Awadh Assam Express, Mahananda Express, North East and the Vivek Express running late by several hours.
The tourists, however, are enjoying the chilly weather and eagerly waiting for snowfall.
The chilly weather has engulfed entire north Bengal with temperatures keeping well below normal is many places including Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Raiganj.
