A former political advisor in Shenzhen city was sentenced to 14 years in jail Friday for taking bribes and possessing illegal weapons by a court in China's Guangdong province.
Huang Zhiguang, former vice-chairman of the Shenzhen Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, took bribes in exchange for promotions, Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled, Xinhua reported.
He also helped the president of a company from 2002 to 2010. In exchange, the company president gave him valuable gifts such as jade ornaments and luxurious wood furniture.
Huang illegally possessed seven guns which were seized from his home April 19, 2011, as part of an investigation into severe discipline violations.
Properties worth 500,000 yuan ($82,350), 800,000 yuan in cash and gifts have been confiscated.
