The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said that 59-year-old former Chelsea boss Avram Grant could be the new manager for the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Addressing a press conference after an Executive Committee meeting, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said Friday that the FA preferred to appoint the Israeli who impressed them most during his interview session, reports Xinhua.

Nyantakyi said that the Executive Committee considered a report put up by a three-member committee to appoint the new coach for Ghana.

"Our preference is Avram Grant and (Juan Ignacio) Jimenez is our second choice. We have not reached agreement with him yet but it is left with some small details which will be sorted out soon," said Nyantakyi.

The Ghana FA has, however, put Jiminenz on a stand-by list in the event they failed to reach an agreement with Grant.

"We will be engaging Grant in further discussion and see if he can be appointed as the coach. If we fail to reach an agreement, it will fall on the second in line Jiminenz," the GFA president said.

Ghana has been without a coach since the dismissal of Kwasi Appiah in September.

Appiah's assistant, Maxwell Konadu, has since been asked by the GFA to take charge of the team until a permanent manager is appointed for the 'Black Stars'.
