Leading Ghanian insurance company Glico has presented a 300,000 cedis (around $93,750) package to the national football team to aid its preparations for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (2015 AFCON) tournament.

The package will cover the players and the technical team before, during and after the tournament which begins Jan 17 and ends Feb 8 in Equatorial Guinea, Xinhua reports.

Presenting the donation to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Edward Fokuo Kyei, the managing director of Glico said sports is one of the core Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the company because it believes sports defines and unifies the nation.

He said in that regard, Glico would always endeavor to ensure the national teams are well motivated to achieve their best for the nation.

"Today, we are here to continue with our tradition to cushion our national team to go and play their hearts out at the AFCON 2015," he said.

The president of the GFA, who received the package, said Glico is no stranger to the association, praising the insurance company for supporting the team and other national teams over the years.

"I know this package will go a long way to motivating the players because they will be well aware that in case of unlikely events, Glico is there for us," he said.

In addition to the package, the company also donated an amount of 10,000 cedis ($3,125) to team as they prepare for the tournament.

The insurance company is also willing to pay 1,000 cedis ($312) for every winning goal in the group stages, 1,200 cedis ($375) in the quarter and semi-finals and 1,500 cedis ($468) for the winning goal in the final grand.

Ghana will play in Group C of the 2015 AFCON alongside Senegal, South Africa and Algeria and will open their campaign against Senegal Jan 19.

Ghana is currently preparing for the event in Spain where they have so far played two friendly matches.

The team will leave Spain five days prior to the beginning of the competition.
