Bihar BJP leader Giriraj Singh is likely to be arrested soon for his remark that critics of prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be sent to Pakistan, a poll panel official said here Tuesday.

Bihar's additional chief electoral officer R. Lakshmanan told media persons here that Jharkhand Police have sought help from the Bihar government to arrest Giriraj Singh, following an arrest warrant issued by them in connection with his remark.

A complaint for making an inflammatory speech was registered Sunday against Giriraj Singh at a police station in Deogarh, Jharkhand.

"The chief electoral officer of Jharkhand has requested the chief electoral officer of Bihar for help to arrest Singh," Lakshmanan said.

He also said the state home department has been asked to look into it.

A case was also registered against Giriraj Singh in Patna Monday after the Election Commission ordered the Patna district administration to do it.

Lakshmanan said Singh's remark was an open violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

He said the order was given to the Patna administration after Giriraj Singh failed to comply with a single-day deadline given to him to submit his explanation.

Singh said Tuesday he stands by his remark. He is the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from Nawada constituency.
