Actress Wamiqa Gabbi says the experience of playing a wrestler in Malayalam drama "Godha" has made her so confident and strong that she can easily demonstrate one of her moves on anyone.
"It's not every day you get to play a wrestler. The experience of playing one in 'Godha' has made me stronger and it has given me immense confidence. These days, I ask anyone I meet if I can do a wrestling move on them," Wamiqa told IANS.
Basil Joseph-directed "Godha", which also stars Tovino Thomas and Renji Panicker, is releasing on Friday.
Explaining how the experience of playing a wrestler made her stronger, she said: "I had to wrestle boys in the film. I have never slapped a boy in my life except for my brother. When I realised I can actually lift and drop someone, I was convinced I have become stronger."
She was trained for a month in wrestling to play her part.
"Godha" marks her Malayalam debut. Asked what got her excited about the project, "wrestling" she said instantly.
"It's wrestling and the fact that I play a Punjabi. Basically, I play myself in the film. I have so far mostly played the pretty heroine. This role gave me the opportunity to behave like a boy. I liked the complexity in the character," she said.
Wamiqa is aware her film will be compared with "Dangal", but she is confident about "Godha".
Having made her southern debut with 2015 Telugu film "Bhale Manchi Roju", Wamiqa currently has two projects in her kitty.
