Haldia gets remote operating station for coastal surveillance

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Thursday commissioned the remote operating station at Haldia in West Bengal's East Midnapore district as part of the coastal surveillance network.

"The radar surveillance is of paramount importance to keep a tab on possible coastal infiltration, sea route subversive ploys and other forms of anti-national activities," a statement said.

Haldia had been identified for setting up the remote operating station on account of its strategic location, it added.

The station is equipped with the latest technology for surveillance and meteorological and communication facilities.

"The project aims at preventing undetected intrusion by monitoring the movement of vessels plying along the coastline. It will also help in enhancing the efficacy of search and rescue operations co-ordinated by the Coast Guard.

"The sensor data generated by the coastal surveillance network would also be shared with other maritime agencies to generate a comprehensive data," said Inspector General K.R. Nautiyal, Commander, Coast Guard Region (North-East).

The project employs high-end surveillance gadgets, such as frequency diversity radar, electro optic sensors, day camera, low-light TV and night camera, among others.
