Heat wave conditions continued to sweep several parts of Odisha with 12 places recording above 40 degree Celsius on Thursday, while authorities confirmed another two sunstroke deaths, taking the official toll to 16.
"We have received 156 alleged death cases due to sunstroke while 80 cases have been inquired so far and 16 cases have been confirmed due to sunstroke. The remaining 64 death cases occurred due to some other reasons," said a functionary of the special relief commissioner's office.
Capital city Bhubaneswar recorded highest temperature of 43.5 degree Celsius, while Sunepur boiled at 43.3 followed by Sundargarh at 42 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, the met department predicted that the western and southern Odisha may experience rainfall in next 24 hours but the heat wave would however continue in coastal Odisha.
