The Pakistan Army on Wednesday resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions at two places on the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
"Pakistan army used mortars, RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) and Pika gunfire to target our positions at Sabjian and Mandi areas on the LoC in Poonch district today (Wednesday)," Defence ministry spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS here.
"Pakistan shelling and firing started at 10.15 a.m. and is still continuing at both these places. Our troops are effectively retaliating Pakistan shelling using some calibre weapons," he said.
Earlier today, the Pakistan Army had fired at Indian positions along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
"The Pakistan Army used 120 mm. mortars and automatics to target our positions in Poonch sector of the LoC yesterday (Tuesday)," defence spokesman had told IANS.
On Tuesday, Pakistan shelling in Poonch had started at 9 p.m. and lasted till 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
"In Balakote sector of the LoC in Rajouri district, the Pakistan Army used 60 mm. mortars and automatics to target our positions," the spokesman said, adding that shelling in this sector started at 9.15 p.m. on Tuesday and was on till 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
At both the places, the Indian troops had retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons. No casualty or damage was immediately reported from the Indian side, the defence ministry spokesman added.
