The central government was planning to give heritage status to the Ramakrishna Vivekananda University run by the Ramakrishna Mission, union Human Resource Development Smriti Irani Minister said Friday.
Addressing the convocation of the university here in Howrah district, Irani said the government would accord prominence to Swami Vivekananda's thoughts on education when it comes out with the new education policy.
The central government would also seek the viewpoints of eminent educational institutions and educationists before finalising the new policy, she said.
The minister said the new education policy would give thrust on quality education and research and aim to boost the human resources in the country.
