A phone call about a bomb thrown at a south Delhi mosque during afternoon prayers triggered panic among residents of the area, though police later found it to be a hoax call.

"Someone created nuisance by giving a fake bomb call at the mosque. When we reached the place we found nothing there," police said, adding that "there was no bomb thrown or placed in the mosque. Things are peaceful here."

The panic began when some residents of Govindpuri area started saying that a man threw a petrol bomb at the mosque when prayers were being held and that the same person had attempted to hurl a petrol bomb at the mosque in the past.

Police said that a 43-year-old mentally challenged man, identified as Rajvansh, had entered the mosque when the afternoon prayer was going on. People who were offering prayers felt disturbed by his presence.
