The situation in Assam's Kokrajhar town, where 13 civilians were killed in a terror attack on Friday, is being monitored by the Ministry of Home Affairs in coordination with state authorities, official sources here said.

"Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal about the terror attack. The situation is being monitored with all necessary coordination from the Centre," a home ministry official told IANS.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju is also in touch with the state government, he said, adding that the Centre is ready to provide "any help" required by the state government.

Earlier in the day, terrorists in military fatigues opened indiscriminate fire at a crowded market in Kokrajhar town and killed 13 civilians. One of the attackers was also killed. They hurled a grenade and then opened fire. Nearly 20 civilians were also injured in the terror attack.
