Hindustan Steelworks Construction Ltd (HSCL), a subsidiary of the state-run NBCC (India) Ltd, on Wednesday accused its contractual workers' union, backed by the Trinamool Congress, of creating disruption in company's operations.

HSCL's Managing Director Neelesh Kumar Shah said contractual workers have been objecting to the shifting of its corporate office from Kolkata to New Delhi and demanding the extension of their contracts.

For the interest of the firm, all the demands of the union have been "agreed upon" recently, even then they have been continuing agitations.

The HSCL Contractual Employees' Association denied the allegations.

HSCL, which was earlier under the control of the Union Ministry of Steel, was transferred under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and NBCC (India) Ltd took 51 per cent stake of the company.

"It was decided HSCL's corporate office would be shifted to Delhi as NBCC is based in the capital. This was objected to by the contractual workers. The company's work has suffered. All 180 projects of HSCL have suffered as there has been no work," Shah said.

The company has 480 contractual workers and 50 permanent employees, Shah said, adding, only 50 contractual workers, out of their total strength, are working in Kolkata.
