ICC moves out tournament from Uganda

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Wednesday moved the World Cricket League Division 3 Championship from Uganda to Kuala Lumpur over security concerns.

"It is very unfortunate that this event cannot take place here as ICC has decided. But we must respect their findings and decision," Justine Ligyalingi, the chief executive officer, Uganda Cricket Association told Xinhua.

The event scheduled to take place here Oct 26-Nov 2. ICC reached the decision to move the Championship after it elevated its security level.

David Richardson, the ICC Chief Executive said in a press release that the safety and security of players and officials is of paramount importance to the ICC, hence the decision for the change. The tournament will now take place Oct 23-30 in Malaysia.

The six teams that will compete in the Championship include Uganda, Nepal, Bermuda, Singapore, US and hosts Malaysia.

Ugandan security agencies Sept 12 thwarted an attempted terror attack, just days after the Somali militant group Al Shabaab vowed revenge for US air strikes that killed its leader.

Uganda provides the bulk of the African Union peacekeeping troops in Somalia. Al Shabaab has constantly warned Uganda that it will face terror attacks if it does not withdraw its troops from Somalia.
