Seeking to internationalise the Kashmir problem, moderate Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday wrote to ambassadors of various countries as also some religious leaders, seeking their help to find solution to the "intractable problem" and he noted that "India and Pakistan cannot do this on their own."

The letter, a copy which was released to the media, refers to the recent violence in the Kashmir Valley and said that international community should work towards an "imaginative solution" to the problem.

"If we are to see economic prosperity and development, education and progress, peace and security in South Asia, it becomes imperative that the international community take this seriously and be proactive in appraising themselves of the ground reality in Kashmir and use their good offices to get this issue on the table for an imaginative solution," it said.

"This is a call for help to find a solution to this seemingly intractable problem which is taking a massive human toll. India and Pakistan cannot and are not able to do this on their own," it added.

The letter has been sent among others to Pope Francis, the Imam of Kaaba, the Shankaracharya, the Dalai Lama, ambassadors of various countries in New Delhi, the United Nations, European Union and Organisation of Islamic Conference regarding "urgent and grave situation" in Jammu and Kashmir, a Hurriyat official said.
