IPL: Daredevils record second win

Raipur, April 29 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils recorded their second victory in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a 15-run win over Pune Warriors India at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium here Sunday.

David Warner (51 off 25) powered the Daredevils to 164 for five after they were put into bat. Ashok Dinda was the pick of the Pune bowlers picking up three wickets.

In reply, the Warriors stuttered their way to 149 for four, wasting a solid start given to them by their openers Aaron Finch (37) and Robin Uthappa (37).

The Warriors were 76 for no loss in the 10th over and looked to be in the driving seat. But all that changed as Uthappa and Finch fell to Pathan in the same over.

Yuvraj Singh (31) and Luke Wright (19) still looked set to take their team home but failed to bring out the big shots as the innings lost all momentum.

Yuvraj hit four beautifully timed fours but Wright never got going. The Englishman threw his bat around to no avail.

Steven Smith made a brave effort to take Pune close to the target scoring 17 off 8 balls, however, it was too little too late.

Delhi finally moved out from bottom position of the table to eighth. Ahead of Pune due to a better run rate.

Earlier, Daredevils started their innings cautiously. Virender Sehwag was very circumspect and had a nice look in.

Mahela Jayawardene was the first to be dismissed, falling to Dinda in the fourth over.

Sehwag (28) and Unmukt Chand (17), who came back into the team after a string of poor performances, forged a 48-run partnership for the second wicket.

The former Delhi captain looked in ominous form hitting two boundaries and two sixes.

Things, though, took a turn for the worse as Daredevils lost both Sehwag and Chand in the space of three balls.

David Warner brought the innings back on track and strung together a crucial 63-run stand for the fifth wicket taking Delhi to a fighting total.

Warner was in terrific touch smashing four fours and four sixes as the Daredevils plundered Pune for 34 runs in the last two overs.
