Iran expects IAEA report to end forever allegations about n-programme

Iran expects the next report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the alleged possible military dimensions (PMDs) of Iran's nuclear programme will help close the case "forever", Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here on Sunday.

"We hope that the next report of Yukiya Amano (IAEA's director general) will help reflect the realities and put an end to this issue," Press TV quoted Zarif as saying, adding that Iran has never had weapon-grade activities in his nuclear programme.

Closure of the alleged PMDs dossier in the IAEA will provide the ground for the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and the world powers in the Austrian capital of Vienna this summer, he told a joint press conference with his visiting Greek counterpart, Nikolaos Kotzias.

IAEA is to issue its final assessment on Iran's alleged nuclear weapon programme next week, the UN nuclear watchdog said on Thursday.

Under a historic nuclear deal signed in July by Iran and the P5+1 group -- Britain, China, France, Russia, the US, plus Germany, Tehran should significantly scale back its atomic plan to address Western countries' concerns over the alleged nuclear weapons programme, while the IAEA was asked to monitor the process.

The IAEA released a disputed report in November 2011, saying that based on credible information it obtained, Tehran might have covertly carried out nuclear research plans on an atomic bomb, the PMDs. However, Tehran has denied the allegation.

In line with the July nuclear deal, Tehran must resolve the PMDs issue with the agency in exchange for a stage-by-stage sanction relief.
