It will be good to finish above Arsenal: Tottenham's Kane

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has said they want to finish above arch rivals Arsenal in the English Premier League (EPL) -- something they have not done since the 1995 football season.

Second-placed Tottenham, who lead third-placed Arsenal by two points with a round of games to go, can finish above Arsene Wenger's team with a stalemate against Newcastle United this Sunday.

Leicester City have already been declared champions, while Manchester City are in fourth spot with 65 points -- three behind Arsenal.

"It would be a really good feeling (finishing above Arsenal)," Kane was quoted as saying by the Independent on Tuesday.

"It was not something we focused on at the start of the season but now we are here it would be good, it would be good for the fans.

"They would have the bragging rights for once in a long time so, yes, we want to finish second. It is in our hands, we just have to win at Newcastle and then it's job done."

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has said Tottenham finishing above them would not be an annual occurrence. However, Kane said he is not so sure about the Frenchman's words.

"That's their opinion," Kane said. "They are going to want to finish above us next season and we will be trying to finish above them.

"We want to finish as high up as we can, we are not going to focus on anything but ourselves. We will finish the season strong and next season we will go and try to win the title again."

The 22-year-old also said that he was disappointed that Spurs had to sign off at home with a 1-2 defeat to Southampton.

"The fans were great but we are just disappointed we couldn't win but there is still one more game and we will try our hardest. We wanted to send the fans home happy. Southampton are a tough side," said the England striker.

"On another day the chances could have gone our way. So we have to go to Newcastle now and try and win that game."

The marksman added he was also looking forward to the Euro championship to be held in France between June 10 to July 10.

"Obviously I feel fit and ready, hopefully we can finish strong next week and then look forward to the Euros," concluded Kane.
