Jamia Nizamia, south India's biggest seminary, will organize a series of programmes from Feb 15 to mark 100th death anniversary of its founder Moulana Hafiz Anwarullah Farooqui.
The 144-year-old institution located in the old city of Hyderabad will organize seminars, public meeting and other events highlighting the educational services of Farooqui, who also served as minister of religious affairs in Nizam's government.
Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, vice chancellor of Jamia and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who is heading the reception committee of centenary celebrations, announced the programmes at a news conference here Thursday.
Owaisi, who is president of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) said he would make all efforts to get due recognition from the government for the degrees awarded by Jamia to its students.
Depending on 'zakat' and donations, Jamia has 30,000 students at its 254 branches in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. It offers free education, boarding and lodging to students.
