Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator Shashank Shekhar Bhokta is set to become the speaker of state assembly.
Four sets of nomination papers were filed in Bhokta's favour on Wednesday. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Singh and others were present on the occasion.
No other candidate has filed nomination papers for the speaker's post.
"(All Jharkhand Students Union president) Sudesh Mahto and (legislative party leader of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik) Pradeep Yadav have said they will not field any candidate and support Bhokta," Rajendra Singh said.
The formal announcement will be made Thursday when the monsoon session begins.
The speaker's post fell vacant after the BJP's C.P. Singh resigned July 19.
The JMM-led Hemant Soren government backed by the Congress, the RJD and independents was formed July 13. Soren proved his majority on July 18.
